Changes

  • Plants now grow over time and eventually pop edible seeds and die - turning into pick up straw.
  • Improved landing sequence for Duckswaine.
  • Duckswaine now glides by default when not flapping unless he is moving too slow.
  • Shift now triggers the descent physics that used to be the default not flapping behaviour.
  • Shift on the ground now spawns the nest.
  • Play area increased to 6000px wide from 4000px wide.
  • Eating seeds increases Duckswaine's stamina permanently - this will become a hunger mechanic - just testing the edible scripts

The delay between updates was caused by a fairly large scale refactoring of Duckswaine's systems, but its all better now.

Early Dev.

30 Dec 2023 Update Map generator now spawns trees and shrubs. Added many additional trees and shrubs. Shrubs are now concealments - Ducks can hide in them and hunters will not see them. Added ambient sounds. Altered controls, shift now glides while peck and poop are both space (peck on the ground, poop in the air.)

29 Dec 2023 Update Pecking now slow humans but does NOT turn them around. Poop to the head will now turn hunters around. Hunters now have speech bubble too. Hunters now spawn proportionally to nest progress. Directional Sound now takes time to arrive based on range. Added Trees and Shrubs that break Line of Sight for Hunters. Hunters now also look at purple duck.

28 Dec 2023 Update PLEASE keep an eye out for player teleport bug - I'm not sure why this is happening and its pretty infrequent.  If it happens to you please let me know including as much as you can remember about what was going on at the time.  Added purple duck to the nest. Added pitch variation to vocalisations. Fixed no momentum bug on dropped carriables. Added speech bubbles. Added directional sound & sound effects.

27 Dec 2023 Update Added Carriable items. Added peckable items. Duckswaine can now say "Wak" - this seems to have a sound loading delay on the HTML5 version - if it doesn't work, wait a little and try again - it has no in-game effect other than the sound at this time. Hunters can now be pecked from the rear to make them turn around and speed up Added nest that can be built by pecking grasses and then dropping them on the transparent nest template. - this will become the level win con soon. Nest loses progress when walked on by hunters. Added hunter divebombing - hit to the head will cause hunter to turn around and slow down but if they see you coming they will crouch and dodge. Thanks to Greg Lang for the suggestion. Successful divebomb does hurts the hunter unless they are crouching

26 Dec 2023 Update Ground is now generated producing nice hills Walking fixed to cope with uneven ground Duckswaine animations altered to ensure he completes a full flap after flapping Stamina added to Duckswaine in preparation for evasive manoeuvres.

24 Dec 2023 (PM) Update Poop to the hunters body bounces off and makes them move faster Poop to the head leaves poop on hat - hit counter. Hunters will now tolerate between 1 & 3 poops to the head before fleeing Hunters will now spawn every 6 seconds to a maximum of 2 hunters Hunter speed randomised Hunters now watch the Duckswaine if it is in front of them and within 900 px Bug Fixed - Duckswaine can no longer be carried out of the field of play by momentum.

24 Dec 2023 (AM) Update Improved Duckswaine flight animation and altered turning physics.  Increased Duckswaine Maximum flight speed and reduced Duckswaine flight acceleration. Fixed altitude drop bug on initiating glide. Hunters now spawn automatically if there are none. Improved hunter animation. Hunters now only flee if poop hits them in the head.

23 Dec 2023 - This is my first project and its only a couple of days old. The basic premise is to chase the hunters away by pooping on them.  So far only Duckswaine is really working and I am currently seeking feedback on how his movement feels.

The game currently only spawns the one unanimated hunter - check back soon to see how it grows.
